Have you ever connected to the free Wi-Fi network at your favorite coffee shop, a hotel, or at an airport? We've all done it. While free Wi-Fi is conveniently everywhere these days, it doesn't mean the connection is secure. And if it's not secure, you, your device, your web browsing, and your sensitive information are at risk.

Unsecure Wi-Fi is one of the easiest ways for hackers to steal your information. Consider these tips if you must connect to public Wi-Fi networks:

Know it – Understand there is a risk connecting to unsecure Wi-Fi. Unsecure Wi-Fi gives hackers the opportunity to access your sensitive information.
Avoid it – When possible, avoid connecting to unsecure Wi-Fi. Find a network that has a lock and requires you to enter a password to access it. Make sure to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) every time you connect.
Don’t access it – If you connect to unsecure Wi-Fi, do not access any sensitive information.
Don’t start it – Do not start any program that requires you to login, i.e. enter a username and password.
Update it – All your devices that connect to Wi-Fi should be updated regularly.
